White Rabbit Zonker on tube

With the recent adventure in tube and zonkers I had to end up with this eventually: a white rabbit zonker from Wapsi with different hackle color. The material should flow really nice in the water, but I have no experience with something like this in a river. There will be a lot of testing this summer, that’s for sure!

Tied up some more of the micro zonker tubes that I did the other day. The pattern is great and fairly easy to do, the only thing I changed this time was to add JC to the sides of it.

Body: UNI-Mylar #10 Gold/Silver, Wapsi Micro Zonker in different configurations (over/under)
Head: 3mm Bead, Hare’s ear Plus Dubbin Dark Olive

Got a shipment of some eyeless hooks from Taimen and while I had a order in I got some micro zonkers to see what I could do with them, these small strips of squirrel zonkers makes for a very good pattern that should come alive in the water

Heading out to do some more fishing tomorrow and sat down with a strip of white rabbit zonker and tied up some variations on the same theme: some with eye, some shorter and on different hooks. I prefer to tie up and fish different styles to see how they behave when they actually sit on the end of a tippet, so it will be a friday with experiments on these (and some baitfish). Which one would you tie up if you got handed these?

Tail/Body: Single strip of Rabbit Zonker, Tan

Never worked with Zonkers before, but this might be the simplest one yet: a single strip of Rabbit zonker, wrapped around the hook, tied in with thread. I fished this last weekend and got myself a Pollock, so I know it works. The Zonker really flows in the water: the tail and the body hair on this makes for very fluid motion. Of course I had to get a couple of other colors for the sea-trout fishing I’m going for this weekend.
