Working with floss can be a pain at times; it splits up and doesn’t stay put where you want it. But it really doesn’t matter when it comes to flies like this that you actually go out and fish with: this red midge pupae should be a good addition to any box for when the trout season starts up again

Thorax/Wing: Seals Fur Green Highlander
This one came to be when I found the package of Rusty Orange and the Green Highlander together in my dubbing box. I think the wrapping of the vinyl rib slowly opening up to reveal the rusty orange can work, together with the seals fur for a bit of life in the water.

More and more streams have some sort of restriction when it comes to fishing: max size, bag limit and of course: barbless. I’m tying up a row of barbless nymphs for the autumn trout fishing this year to get some experience with them. The color variations here with green/green and white/green really comes out good when they are wet

Experimenting with colors and combinations to get some small nymphs that incooperate the vinyl rib pattern that I really like: it makes the body pop-out. The Rust body + Green Vinyl rib below is my favourite amongst these (both with and without the hackle)
