When I was out in the forest the other day, this fly was the one that the trout really couldn’t get enough of. It is easy to tie, can be varied in size and colors to match whatever you have hatching around you and it catches fish! The pattern is really simple with only dubbing, CDC and deer hair (or the equivalent). The CDC makes this fly come to life on the surface, and it really floats well…..
Hook: Mustad 94840 #14
Thread: Sheer 14/0 Green
Body: Hareline Hare’s Ear Plus Dark Olive
Wing Case: 2 Green CDC with Deer Hair on top
Apply dubbing to the hook

The Hends Musk-Rat dubbing is the other from Hends that I have, but compared with the superfine this one has some more longer fibers that stick out. These you can remove before applying to the thread, or keep them on to get a more dynamic body. Usage would be fore dry-flies or emergers.

Saturday was a great day for heading out into the forest around Oslo: 17-18 degrees and the forecast said sun. The forest is very accessible, but for those lakes a bit in you really need a bike to be able to cover some ground in a single day, so about 20km in and I set up on a new lake that I haven’t fished before. First of was the river going into the lake: some small brown trout in the river aggressively going on my flies.

Hook: Daiichi 1260 #12
Thread: Sheer 14/0 Black
Tail: Hareline Turkey Biot Black
Body: UTC Vinyl Rib Nymph Clear, black thread underneath
Thorax: Hareline Hare’s Ear Plus Chocolate Brown
Wing Case: Hareline Scud Back 1/8″ Black
Wing: Mallard Flank
The clear Vinyl Rib gives a huge amount of variations when it comes to color for this one: just use different thread underneath and it will take on a diffirent shade. The body is a bit uneaven and could have been a bit thicker and the wing case above the foremost thorax part should have been better, but it will fish!
