Tube: Red & Black #2

Working over and over on a pattern is how I normally learn myself something new, these days it is this red/black tube that is getting worked on.

Bottom view: the red tag is not as tight as I would have wanted it to be tough: I need a different tube adapter

Another tube today where I went for a pure red & black pattern with silver wrapping on the body. I should have chosen a blank tube for this one since I think the orange on the tube crashed a bit with the rest of the fly.

The silver-tag is a bit messed up as you can see in the picture from below: the uni-french suddenly got on top of each other, but for a fishing fly it is ok.

The temple dog wing gives a nice profile, and I like the combination of red & black

Thread: Sheer 14/0 white
Tail: Sparkle Organza
Body: polishquills stripped peacock orange, Hareline Hare-Tron Pale Yellow
Wing: Whiting Bronze Brown, Wapsi polypropylene

A experiment in having a two-tone body on a emerger hook: it gives the impression of something in mid-hatch. Not very impressed with the hackle on this one – it got on top of eachother and it points up, but: for a something I’m fishing with this is of no big concern for me.

A couple of bright orange tube shrimps today: trying to keep them slim and lightly dressed, will try them out in the sea between christmas and new years to see how they behave. Still on a experiment phase when it comes to tubes: tying up different things to see how material and composition ends up.

Some sunday pictures: we headed up to a lake not far from Oslo (40 minutes metro/bus, then 1 hour on a track through the forest). The winter has set in (although late this year) and we waded through snow and ice to get up there, the fog was really thick at times but it made for a really good atmosphere once we got up to the lake.

We try to brew fresh coffee on our trips, snow and fog shouldn’t be a hinder!
