Here together with the first fly I created:

I have earlier tried the 365 days – 365 pictures on my norwegian blog, but that was by myself, this year we are a group at work that are doing 52 weeks – 52 pictures. With my passion for photography and flytying I immediately thought about doing 1 fly for each of the topics in the challenge. But that would be a bit boring for the rest of the group, so: this year I’m doing two challenges, one with normal pictures and one I’m doing here on dryfly.me. The challenge though is a bit interesting: I’m not doing traditional flies or patterns, but rather a freestyle fly that corresponds to the keyword I have for my photo challenge (you will see what I’m talking about once I start putting up the pictures).
As you can see from the list of keywords below, some of them might be a bit tricky, but it is the association between keyword and fly that is crucial. There is no correct fly for these keywords, as long as you can explain what you did and why you did it.
Each week I’ll end up with two photos, but if you want to tag along you can do just one!

Thread: Sheer 14/0 Yellow
Body: Hareline Hare-Tron Dubbin Pale Yellow, UTC Ultra Wire SM Gun Metal Blue
Thorax: Hareline Hare’s Ear Plus Dubbin Dark Olive
Wing: 3xCDC Dark Olive
This low-hanging emerger is a very good fly to keep when targeting trout: the hook will break the surface tension and sit low in the water while the CDC will keep it afloat. A few drops of floatant (don’t put anything on the body!) will keep this in perfect position. I chose a long and fat wing on this to be able to float it down a river and keep it as low as possible in the water. The white body with the blue rib is a good visual clue, I could go without ribbing to loose some weight, but with the amount of CDC on this fly that should not be needed.

Thread: Sheer 14/0 Brown
Body: Polishquills Stripped Peacock Eye Quill Orange
Thorax: Fly-Rite Extra Fine Poly Golden Yellow
Wing: Snowshoe Rabbit Feet Aurivilli
The TMC 2488 is a great hook to tie these small emergers on: they are 3X wide – much easier to tie in on and will hook better than other hooks in this size. The Fly-Rite Extra fine dubbing again shows how good it is for creating a slim thorax on sub-20 hooks: it is my go-to dubbing that I should keep some more colors of available.
